Coach, is your design good for metal plates? I have an olympic set of weights but they are metal and I don't have $$ to get bumpers yet. I've seen designs that use carpet padding and 2X4's but the platforms are much larger and expensive. I like your design but I'm not sure if I'm going to break the weights if I drop them. Suggestions? Thanks.

i think i answered this before but will again just in case.

years ago i lifted with metal plates only. i did have to control bringing the bar down on a successful lift. from top i came to shoulders, to mid thigh to floor. of course on missed lifts one does drop the bar in all my years of training i never broke a plate. good luck. the platform i use is fine.
